HOW YOU CAN HELP
Legacies of War's advocacy and educational programming is critical to ensuring that the U.S continues to learn about this history and fund demining, victim, assistance and mine risk education in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Learn more about our projects that need funding below!
Since our founding in 2004, our advocacy work has led to an increase of U.S. funding of $1.8M for demining in Laos to $73M for demining in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam in 2022. Still decades after the last American bombs were dropped on Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam millions of unexploded cluster munitions and other ordnance remain.
Our goal is to secure $80M in U.S. funding for demining programs in 2024. We receive none of the U.S. funding that we advocate for.
Throughout all levels of education, we have observed a significant gap in the curriculum regarding the history of U.S. militarization in Laos, Cambodia. and Vietnam. Our goal is to permanently preserve and protect the unique contributions, experiences, cultures, and languages which have not been recognized. Refugee families, survivors, veterans, and voices of the diaspora will never be forgotten through: Legacies Library, Thip Khao Talk Podcast, Khao Niew’s Classroom, and our internship programs.
Together in 2023, we brought history, healing, and hope to over 108,000 participants and 16 community organizations in the U.S. and around the globe.
As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary in 2024, we will continue to use art, culture, education, and community organizing around events (virtually and in person) to bring people together as we engage audiences in panel discussions, creative convening, and programming centered around history, healing, and hope.
